What is liver cancer?
Liver cancer is a life-threatening disease that is on the rise in the United States today. Around 90% of liver cancer cases are categorized as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The other 10% include intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, fibrolamellar HCC, mixed HCC, and epithelioid hemangiothelioma. Liver cancer commonly affects men more than women and is most prevalent in individuals 65-70 years old. The most significant risk factors for liver cancer are chronic hepatitis B or C injections. Alcohol abuse, metabolic syndrome, and hemochromatosis may also increase the likelihood of liver cancer. At HCI, we treat:
- Hepatocellular carcinoma
- Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma
- Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma
- Mixed Hepatocellular Carcinoma
- Epithelioid Hemangiothelioma
