Cancer research ranges from epidemiology, molecular bioscience to the performance of clinical trials to evaluate and compare applications of the various cancer treatment. These applications include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, Immunotherapy and combined treatment modalities such as chemo-radiotherapy.

Starting in the mid-1990’s, the emphasis in clinical cancer research shifted towards therapies derived from biotechnology research, such as immunotherapy and gene therapy.

The Hyperthermia Cancer Institute is actively involved in clinical research, please ask your doctor about the many resources available.

Transportation and lodging should not be a reason why you miss your treatment. Even with the help of your family and friends, sometimes the distance, traffic, fatigue, and the cost can be a burden.

We Are Here To Help

Below are several free or reduced cost options if you are not from the area or have a difficult time coming to your appointment. Please note that these services are based on the availability of cancer survivors and advocates and not always the best option for last-minute arrangements.

We recommend that you schedule your ride and/or hotel stay five to seven days in advance to secure your place in line. If there is still an issue with transportation and lodging or you need assistance, please contact our office during regular business hours to talk about alternative options. We know the value of you visiting The Hyperthermia Cancer Institute (HCI) and want to make sure you are comfortable and safe throughout this process.

Some transportation companies will request our facility to recommend you for transportation. Our friendly front office staff is here to help you throughout this process. Please call us if you need any assistance.

Ground Transportation

The American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program provides rides to and from cancer-related medical appointments

The Road To Recovery program provides rides via Lyft to and from cancer-related medical appointments for patients who otherwise might not be able to get there. If you or someone you love needs a ride, The Road To Recovery program can help. Based on eligibility and availability, they will match you with volunteer drivers working with the American Cancer Society, or other local resources.

Air Transportation (Limitation To Western States) 

Angel Flight West arranges non-emergency air travel for those with severe medical conditions such as cancer

Angel Flight West is a volunteer-driven organization that arranges free, non-emergency air travel for children and adults with severe medical conditions and other compelling needs. The non-profit organization will transport patients from multiple airports within the 13 Western states, including Alaska and Hawaii. Please make sure to secure other forms of transportation other than flight in case there are mechanical or weather issues that prevent take-off.

Air Transportation (Commercial Flights) 

Mercy Medical Angels provide transportation arrangements to patients battling cancer

Mercy Medical Angels provides free commercial flights that are outside of California. In addition to flights, they also can help arrange ground transportation for clinical care. Please make sure to always have a back-up plan in addition to your flight/ground transportation arrangements as weather, layovers, availability, and mechanical issues can sometimes be problematic.

The American Cancer Society offers lodging accommodations for cancer patients and their families

We know the inconvenience of traveling, exhaustion and, being away from the comforts of your home. The American Cancer Society is trying to make this difficult situation easier for both cancer patients and their amazing families through a lodging program. Please contact the number below to find a hotel chain that will provide free or reduced cost lodging so you can receive treatment, stay healthy and be comfortable at the same time.
